Useful Information for Daly City CA

Daly City, CA is located directly south of San Francisco, and was named after landowner and businessman John Daly. John Daly had originally come to the San Francisco Bay area in 1853, where he worked on a dairy farm and eventually married the bosses' daughter. His business prospered, and the area grew following the Great San Francisco Earthquake of 1906.

The area was originally settle by farmers, but most left when the recurring fog proved inhospitable for farming. The remaining settlers tried dairy and cattle farming and met with greater success. The coming of the railroad made the area more accessible, and the population gradually increased. Daly City allowed gambling and fighting, something that nearby San Francisco did not. That led to increased visitation from neighboring towns looking for these forms of recreation.
