Useful Information for Elk Grove CA

Elk Grove CA is located south of the state capital of Sacramento. Founded in 1850 as a Wells Fargo stage depot, it is located just south of Sutter Fort. Since Sutter Fort afforded protection for the area, it rapidly grew following the discovery of gold in the surrounding areas.
The gold rush brought many people to the area, along with their need for food, shelter and other necessities. Agriculture became a mainstay, and the nearby railroad brought even greater population.

On July 1, 2000, Elk Grove was incorporated as a city in July of 2000. The city today is regarded as one of the many bedroom communities surrounding the state capital of Sacramento.

Elk Grove is home to the annual Giant Pumpkin Festival that is held the first weekend in October. Similar to the Garlic Festival in Gilroy, it attracts a cult following for the pumpkin-inspired food and merchandise offered. The Strauss Festival is another annual event, held each year at the Elk Grove Regional Park. It has been held continuously since 1987. The event is held outdoors and features dance productions.
