Livermore, CA was incorporated in 1876 and is the oldest city in the Livermore Valley. The arrival of the railroad in 1869 helped establish the area as an agricultural center, with subsequent wineries established soon after. Originally a quiet suburb, Livermore changed tone with the addition of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in 1952, and the addition of Sandia National Laboratory in 1956.


Today, Livermore has over 40 wineries with over 5000 acres of vineyards which include Concannon and Wente. Wente has added concerts and fine dining to their winery, guaranteed to bring visitors and tourists back to the area again and again. Livermore has also turned their downtown area into a pedestrian friendly place for shopping and dining. The local government is renowned for bringing in new business and retaining the businesses that are already there.
