Los Altos, CA began with a Land Grant deed from the Spanish court.


In the late 1800s, Mrs. Sarah Winchester, widow of the inventor of the Winchester rifle, owned the 100 acres that later became the town site of Los Altos. Most people know of Sarah Winchester from the famous Winchester House. Mrs. Winchester sold her land to the Peninsula Interurban Railway in 1906, the same year as the Great San Francisco earthquake.


With its mild climate and a newly established railroad, businesses and families starting relocating to the city of Los Altos. The citizens of Los Altos voted to incorporate in 1952, and are now part of the Silicon Valley community, renowned worldwide for their high-tech innovations.
