Useful Information for Sacramento CA

Sacramento CA is the state capital of California, and the 35th largest city in the United States (this number does vary slightly from year to year). Located at the junction of the American and Sacramento rivers, this California city has a rich and varied history. Started by the efforts of John Sutter Sr., a Swiss immigrant, and helped by it's proximity to Fort Sutter, the city was further charted for rapid growth by the gold discovery of the late 1840's - early 1850's. The rapidly growing population needed to be fed, clothed and housed, and Sacramento was only to happy to oblige.

All was not easy in the early years, as the city flooded several times in the mid nineteenth century. One little known fact was that In 1861, Governor Leland Stanford was inaugurated in early January from a rowboat!

The city became the hub for major concerns such as agriculture, the area telegraph, riverboats, wagon trains, the Pony Express and the Railroad. All of them passed through the city and spurred its enormous influence and growth. Immigrants from all over the world were attracted to the area, and the population remained so diverse that it was named in the year 2002 as the most culturally diverse city in the entire country.

Sacramento remains a vibrant and culturally diverse city, and shows every sign of continuing in this same direction.
